چکیده

Abstract Background and Aims In hemodialysis (HD) patients, the majority of bloodstream infections are caused by infection vascular access catheters. Commonly, Central venous catheters (CVCs) only option when HD is needed for patients without definitive access. However, in addition to infection, CVCs associated with other complications, such as thrombosis, dysfunction, leading higher mortality expenditures. Egypt, recent data show that 6.6% use a access, which short term represent 59.6% 40.4% long-term Many catheter-locking solutions could contribute reduction catheter-related especially infections. Aim; assess possible effect using Trisodium citrate 30% (TSC 30%) comparison unfractionated heparin, lock solution catheters, on inflammatory status, incidence catheter related Bacteremia (CRB) dialysis adequacy patients. Method This was randomized controlled clinical trial, conducted 70 prevalent regular recruited from unit Nasser Institute Hospital Cairo government at time insertion. Patients were divided into two groups: Citrate Group; 35 received trisodium after session, Heparin heparin (5000i.u) session. Both groups followed up 3 months period monitored signs CRB. Also, Urea ratio (URR) measured monthly. Highly sensitive CRP baseline start solutions. Blood cultures withdrawn who developed Results our study, bacteremia episodes significantly lower group compared group. Only 2 (5.7%) had CRB, whereas group, 8 (22.9%) CRB (P = 0.04) (Fig. 1). Bacteremia-free longer The mean free 10.97 ± 2.36 weeks, while it 9.43 3.91 weeks 0.032) 2). At base line, there no significant difference between both regarding hsCRP 0.596) WBCs 0.528). While TSC solution, regards levels 0.030) 3) 0.036), markers showed There studied thrombosis events. performance, assessed URR, 0.005) 0.108) 4). Conclusion we may conclude that, standard lock. its better performance adequacy. We therefore believe be potential alternative

Comparison of trisodium citrate and heparin as catheter-locking solution in hemodialysis patients.

INTRODUCTION The high incidence of patients beginning dialysis treatment with venous catheters, as well as the growing number of patients with permanent catheter access, has increased catheter- related blood infections and their consequences. Thus the search for substances with anticoagulant properties that also prevent catheter contamination is necessary. OBJECTIVE This study aimed at compar...

Randomized, clinical trial comparison of trisodium citrate 30% and heparin as catheter-locking solution in hemodialysis patients.

Interdialytic hemodialysis catheter-locking solutions could contribute to a reduction of catheter-related complications, especially infections. However, they can cause side effects because of leakage from the tip of the catheter. Recently, trisodium citrate (TSC) has been advocated because of its antimicrobial properties and local anticoagulation. In a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, con...

Tunneled catheters with taurolidine-citrate-heparin lock solution significantly improve the inflammatory profile of hemodialysis patients.

Mortality and morbidity are significantly higher among patients with dialysis catheters, which has been associated with chronic activation of the immune system. We hypothesized that bacteria colonizing the catheter lumen trigger an inflammatory response. We aimed to evaluate the inflammatory profile of hemodialysis patients before and after locking catheters with an antimicrobial lock solution....

Taurolidine-citrate-heparin catheter lock solution reduces staphylococcal bacteraemia rates in haemodialysis patients.

BACKGROUND Infection is second only to cardiovascular disease as a cause of death in the haemodialysis (HD) population. AIM : To assess the effect of introducing catheter lock solution taurolidine-citrate-heparin to all tunnelled central venous catheters (TCVCs) on staphylococcal bloodstream infection rates in patients on chronic HD. DESIGN Observational, prospective analysis of the inciden...

Dialysis adequacy of chronic hemodialysis patients in Zanjan-Iran, 2016

Background: Dialysis adequacy is one of the most important factors in determining the survival rate and mortality of dialysis patients. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the dialysis adequacy of patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis at dialysis centers located in the province of Zanjan, located in northwest Iran. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performe...
